GP Engagement: Goal 1 for CCGs
As the role of CCGs develops, and the security of the Better Care Funding ensures their future, more control and responsibility will be afforded to CCGs in their goal to develop primary care. This increased confidence in CCGs to manage their own local primary care and budgets brings fresh importance to the need for CCGs to engage local member GPs.
Involving member GPs in championing the CCG cause is critical in the overall objective to reform primary healthcare, however few CCGs are successfully accomplishing this – how well does your CCG communicate?
A huge barrier to engagement is that GPs often feel they are not seeing the results of getting involved and they feel decisions are not being communicated back to them. This issue has brought fresh importance on CCGs to invest in communicating with GPs if they want to consolidate their position.
Many CCGs communicate news via social media posts, emails and newsletters, but this random sequence of messaging can easily get lost amongst the noise of a busy email inbox or social media feed. CCGs need to plan their communications with GPs, they need to identify a set of key messages, deliver these through engaging channels and utilise the opportunity to turn their website into a central hub where GPs can build a relationship and involvement with the organisation.
How do we know? Well…. IE has 20 years’ experience of working in the health sector, and recently built a dual purpose website, and provided marketing support, to Brighton & Hove Emerging CCG, helping them to increase their engagement with member GPs.
